jason hsiao This is a topic that many people are looking for. s-star.org is a channel providing useful information about learning, life, digital marketing and online courses …. it will help you have an overview and solid multi-faceted knowledge . Today, s-star.org would like to introduce to you Jason Hsiao "Don't Try To Be Funny. Start With Video That Works For You" [Interview – YouTube. Following along are instructions in the video below:
“Name is jason chou. I am. The chief video officer and co founder of animoto animoto music. I think the craziest thing i ve seen recent it s not necessarily out specific.
But i only know this because i have a i have a nephew who s nine years old and he s obsessed with the show on youtube. I forget exactly what it but they just do these crazy things like they ll throw a basketball off a roof without even looking and it go and they follow the camera the camera falls and it goes like right into the basketball hoop and they just do crazy stuff like that and you know it probably took them like a thousand takes. But they just do it and they re like and it s just it s really funny. It s like you can t stop watching them.
But and then i kind of got addicted to watching them myself especially video on social. It s still a bit of the wild west in terms of there s a lot of room for experimentation and trying different things sometimes i actually think that when companies are trying to do things that just aren t authentic to their brand or have anything to do with what they actually offer in terms of a product or service. It just comes across really gimmicky and kind of fake so i think..
But that s but but when you think about well how do i create something that is interesting on social especially in the first few seconds. It s hard not to kind of think of all these kind of gimmicky ideas. Even the example. I gave of someone throwing a basketball off a giant building you know without looking it s kind of gimmicky.
But so it s a fine line. So i think it just it really depends on the type of company or if you re a company that is that your brand. Really actually is funny or where you can kind of do get goofy things that s great. But if you re a company.
Where that s not part of your brand or you know part of the personality. You re trying to convey then i would say don t do that kind of stuff. There s other ways to kind of create interest ross..
I think that the main lesson. We ve learned over the years and the supply is probably that everyone is video is not this one time you know checklist item on your marketing. To do this right you it s not just oh i put it i have a web. I have a video on my website.
I m done video is a form of communication and so you need to be using video regularly to communicate with your audience with your prospects with their customers. And so i think once we kind of got into that mindset of we call it speaking video. Because it s a form of communication. Then i think we really started to see results because it s rare that there s just you put one video out there and then all these customers come from that one video right.
It s really about following them along a journey and so in the beginning. You re just trying to figure out what type of content might just draw some interest right and then maybe they ve taken some interest in whatever topic. You re talking about or presenting on and then you have to figure out well..
How do i get them maybe interested in what i m actually offering get them to your website. Then there s videos once they re on your website and they re kind of checking out you know your company or product using video to talk about your company your product your service. So it s really about using video all along the customer journey and putting in front of them. What s relevant at their stage of kind of like their their customer vice ico their third their journey.
Most folks that i have the opportunity to talk to are they no video is important there they re just trying to figure out how to get started. And i think where i cringe is where the first thing they try to do is they try to go do something funny because that s what they see is successful that s what s getting all the views. I see like the old spice commercial or they see the dollar shave club thing. But what they don t understand is those productions.
They probably use the creative agency spent millions of dollars hired professional funny people to do those and even when they do that it s very rare that you kind of get that gem that truly is funny and truly is viral so again and when i see people try to do funny stuff on their own. It s often cringe worthy because it s mostly not funny. It might be funny for the people in the op in their company or on their team who are watching it because i know that person..
But it s not funny to the rest of the you know the viewing world so yeah so i usually say if you re gonna if you re trying to figure out where to start don t try to produce some funny viral video because it s probably not going to work start with what are what start with start with what works for you in terms of your message. The images or video clips that you already have the people that are successful already talking to you know your customers or prospects. If you start with that you re gonna just have a lot more success in the beginning wouldn t be cats. Because i m allergic to cats and don t like cats dogs are pretty interesting.
But i think i think there s a lot of untapped opportunity with funny things you could do with babies babies and little children and hopefully things that you know don t get you in trouble by putting them in too much danger. But i have two five year old girls myself. And i always have unless ideas of things i would love to do with a loan camera. But we ll see i think i would choose babies.
